# Requirements

For a new installation, use a **fresh Ubuntu 24.04 LTS server** and follow the [interactive Linux installation guide](/installation/setup-uxwizz-server/ubuntu-20.04.md). The installer prepares Apache, PHP, the database, and scheduled tasks. You do not need to create a database or an environment file first.

For an existing hosting account or WordPress site, see the [installation guide](/installation/installation.md). Your hosting must meet the requirements below.

## Server requirements

You need your own hosting, VPS, or dedicated server.

UXWizz requires:

* **64-bit PHP ≥ 8.3**, with **pdo\_mysql**, **OpenSSL**, and **zip** enabled for the website.
* **MySQL ≥ 8.0** or **MariaDB ≥ 10.7**
* A PHP-capable web server. The Linux installer configures **Apache**. Other servers, such as NGINX, need equivalent routing and access rules; they do not read Apache `.htaccess` files.
* **HTTPS** before entering credentials or using the dashboard in production.
* Permission for PHP to write the application files needed by setup, tracking, and updates. If setup reports a permission problem, ask the server administrator to check ownership and the affected paths.

The automated Linux installation needs SSH access and `sudo` or root permissions. Manual hosting installations need access to upload files and create a database with a dedicated database user. PHP or database upgrades, file ownership, firewall rules, and HTTPS setup require server or hosting-panel access; UXWizz cannot change them from the dashboard.

Check the PHP version and extensions used by the **website**. A hosting account can use a different PHP version for command-line scripts. Do not make all application files world-writable to resolve a permission error.

Use a patched PHP release: **8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12, or a later patched release on a supported branch**. These versions address the [PHP security advisory of 21 October 2026](https://www.php.net/archive/2026.php). If your host supplies backported fixes, ask it to confirm that both fixes are installed.

UXWizz can warn about an older PHP version, but updating UXWizz does not update PHP. For Docker installations, pull the patched image and recreate the containers while keeping your existing volumes. For other installations, update PHP through your host or server administrator.

Choose server resources based on traffic, recordings, and how long you keep data:

## Website requirements

* Include the UXWizz JavaScript tracker on your website: **ust.min.js** for basic recording or **ust-rr.min.js** for full recording.
* You need access to add the [tracking code](/installation/adding-the-tracking-code.md) to the pages you want to track.
